Hi,
My name is Theea, I am 42 years old and I live in Malmö, Sweden with my 16 years old daughter, Alexia. I am a single mother, who likes to travel, discover and explore our wonderful world together with her daughter. I was born and raised in Romania and I was about 23 years old when I moved first to Copenhagen, Denmark and after several years I moved further to Malmö, Sweden.
Traveling as a single mother has challenges, and I am often asked what is the most difficult part? I actually have nothing to compare it. I have been a single mom since the time my daughter was very young and I am accustomed being the primary and the only care-taker. Although the parenting challenges change as my daugther grows I can’t honestly say what the hardest part is. I just keep making adjustments (which are not always helping ), and I’m not sure if they are unique to being a mother who likes to travel. But the hardest part of being a single mother has always been maintaining time for myself and making space for a personal life. And that’s not really a travel specific issue, it’s the reality of every single parent who likes or not to travel.
I believe that travel is the key to family togetherness and a recipe for a brighter and more sustainable future. Travel cultivates empathy, inspires a love for nature and other cultures and a desire to protect them. But most importantly, travel brings people together and more closer to each other. I remember myself as a child, (during the Comunist period) doing my geography homeworks and wondering myself if I will ever have the chance to visit countries and travel around the world. At that time it was an impossible dream to furfill. I remember I traveled for the first time outside Romania, when I was like 13 years old with my class on a day trip to Bulgaria. Since then I felt the desire to travel and get to discover more and more of this planet. And now I can say that the more I get to discover the more I want to do it! Everytime I get the chance to get on a plane and travel somewhere I remember me as the child who has always been eager to discover and explore the world! So I get even more excited and thankfull for every opportunity and for every dream I get to make it true!
